Mid-century modern is a design term applied most frequently to residential and some commercial architecture, interior design and furniture. The term is generally related to the Space Age, the International style and a sleek, cool, yet comfortable furnishings style.

Some of the big names associated with the mid-century modern era include: Rudolf Schindler, Richard Neutra, Charles and Ray Eames and Craig Ellwood.

They carry one of my favorite items, The Starck la Boheme Stools designed by Philippe Starck. La Boheme is a collection of stools in the shape of classical vases. Small offering, but they do interior design. Travis Smith is best known for interior design work for clubs and restaurants in the D.C. area. They have info on the history of modern furniture, and even have examples of retro advertising.The site has a good history of modern furniture design.."In the States furniture companies Herman Miller and Knoll led the way for the new Modernism, through their uncompromising innovative products.
